Egon Wellenbrink presents: Mercat de Santa Catalina | Palma
The Mercat de Santa Catalina is located in the middle of one of the trendiest areas in Santa Catalina. The market is the oldest in the metropolis and originally was used to supply the area with fruit, vegetables, flowers, fish (especially fresh produce, because of its proximity to the fish market). Even today there are regional and seasonal products on offer, as well as fresh produce, which is well distributed, and a nice place to do your shopping. In addition, there is an extensive gastronomic offer: At many of small stands you can taste seafood and other small delicacies, and enjoy one of Mallorca`s fresh white wines.
Cooking workshops are held from time to time. Thus, it is not surprising that here, one can repeatedly see the famous chefs of the island doing their shopping. In the “Bar Es Mercat” one can have its freshly bought fish or meat grilled, and enjoy it with a glass of white wine. At the exit of the market there is a department in which also clothes are offered. Visting the market is best on weekdays, because on Saturdays many “Palmesans” Palma residents, come after shopping to eat some tapas and have a drink.
