San Telmo - This is where I want to live

San Telmo is a small a sea side village, located in a picturesque bay with a 180m long sandy beach, along the west coast of Mallorca and opposite the protected conservation island of Sa Dragonera.   San Telmo can be reached from Andratx via S`Arraco, going along a windy road and the wooded foothills of the Tramuntana mountain. The bay of San Telmo is not only today an attractive attraction for tourists and locals during the summer months, but also the pirates in the 16th century used the bay to anchor their boats and from here transport their ill-gotten goods to the centre of the island. The old fortifications date back to this time.

The village consists of only one main road that runs parallel along the sea and there are some small boutiques and souvenir shops. To the right as well as the left, you can find Mediterranean style apartments, developments of terraced houses, as well as holiday homes and villas. This area is luckily spared from hotel development. However, there are some very recommendable restaurants. - mostly with terraces and beautiful sea views, specialised in fish dishes. San Telmo is a popular destination, especially out of season, for walks from the old watchtower Torre Cala de Basset to the old Trapist monastery. The small island of Es Pantaleu and the 4 km long island of Sa Dragonera, on which a hotel was once supposed to be built, but was thankfully prevented by environmentalists. Today Sa Dragonera is a nature park with rare animal species and unique vegetation.
