Egon Wellenbrink accompanies you to Mallorca’s markets

Mallorca’s markets are worth a visit! Each one is different, each one has its own special charm, each one offers different products. First there are the large markets in halls that originally offered everything that Palma`s citizens needed: fruit, vegetables, bakery products, cheese, fish and meat. In recent years, there has also been an attractive gastronomic offer, such as in the indoor markets at Mercat de l`Olivar and Mercat de Santa Catalina.

The varied gastronomic offer attracts “especially” gourmets and tourists, and so recently, pure gastronomic markets such as the very popular Mercado de San Juan, have developed. This follows the successful concept of international metropolises such as Berlin, Madrid, Barcelona, where so-called gourmet markets have been particularly popular for many years. But of course, there are still the large weekly open-air markets like in Santanyi and Santa Maria de Camí and the special markets like the farmers’ market of Sineu, where you can buy agricultural products, animals of all kinds and agricultural equipment.
