Heinz Hoenig visits the Bodega Tianna Negre | Binissalem

The history of the Tianna Negre Bodega is reminiscent of the stories of young entrepreneurs who started out in a garage and then enjoyed huge success. The bodega emerged from a small vineyard. The first wines of the Morey-Garau family, who also owned the Bodega Túnel, were still being bottled in a garage. The family’s small vineyard was already 35 years old. The success story led to a cultivation area of about 50 hectares, all located in the Raiguer region. A calcareous soil with a loamy texture is typical for this region, and the soils there are rich in iron, as the characteristic red colour shows. The climate is characterized by hot summers and moderately cold winters.

The Tianna Negre is made from the Manto Negro, Callet, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah grape varieties. All grapes come from their own vineyards. Harvesting and selection is done by hand in the old traditional way, and the wine then ferments at a controlled temperature in stainless steel vats. The maceration period is 38 days. Once the wine has reached the desired structure and complexity, it matures for 10 months in new French oak barrels. The Tianna Negre is an intense and mature wine with a long finish and aromas of ripe black fruits. The bodega also produces its own olive oil, which can be tasted during visits with sobrasada and cheese.
