Heinz Hoenig visits Bodegas Ribas | Consell

Bodegas Ribas can look back on more than 300 years of winegrowing history. The nobleman Pedro Ribas de Cabrera began in 1711 with the cultivation of vines on his lands in Consell around his manor house, which today is now a listed building and still serves as the company headquarters. Today the vineyard has an area of 40 hectares. The vineyard is characterised by permeable stone and gravel soils with a loose and sandy texture. The average age of the vines is 60 years for local varieties and 25 years for international varieties. The red wines come from the Mantonegro, Cargollassa, Callet, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot varieties; the white wines from the Prensal Blanc, Viognier and Moscatel varieties.

Interested parties can be recommended to visit the Bodegas Ribas. There you can get to know the excellent wines and the work of the winegrowers and wine experts. The bodega is located in a listed manor house from the XVIIIth century, which has been preserved until today, with its vaulted cellars and production rooms. The guided tour of the cellars and bodega introduces you to the history of the bodega, the cultivation of wine in Mallorca and the special production at Ribas. Of course, there will be a wine tasting with Ribas wines and a tasting of Ribas Extra Virgin Olive Oil together with a snack. The guided tours last either 1 or 2 hours.
