Station 6: Mallorca “Island wide” – culinary day trips

I already told you at the beginning that Mallorca has about 5.000 gastronomy businesses. Many are concentrated in the southwest of the island and the metropolis Palma. Nevertheless, there are also some gastronomical highlights all over the island that are worth discovering. Especially on weekends, we like to travel around the Mallorcan countryside and discover hitherto unknown spots and visit charming country restaurants. This is why I extended my small gastronomical island guide to include some restaurants located in the centre of the island, the west, north and the south of the island. I will begin with restaurants in Santa Maria, Santa Eugenia, Santanyi and Port de Soller. Bon Profit!

CELLER SA TORRE | Restaurant | Tel. +34 971 14 40 11

MA 320, Ctra. Santa Maria | Sencelles, Santa Eugenia | Km 7

The CELLAR SA TORRE restaurant is the wine cellar of a historic 500-year-old estate with its own wine production, now run as a country hotel. 8.70 m high ceilings and mighty old wine barrels, together with cosy lighting and invitingly laid tables create a unique atmosphere. The kitchen convinces with a weekly changing menu with six or seven courses. The main courses are fish, meat or vegetarian dishes – all of them with fresh, seasonal products of the best quality and presented in a refined way. The wine list is also convincing. The best wines of Mallorca, but also exquisite wines from the mainland. CELLER DE SA TORRE – Always worth a visit.

ES MOLI DES TORRENT | Restaurant | Tel. +34 971 140 503

MA 2020, Ctra. de Bunyola, 75 | Santa Maria

A unique location in the “other Mallorca”, a historical, lavishly restored mill with a cosy, rustic ambience and an inviting, shaded and protected patio. The owners, Hertha and Peter Himbert are a delightful & friendly couple- Peter is in the kitchen, Hertha manages the service, the gastronomy operates on a high level and offers a Mediterranean, seasonal cuisine with fresh products from the market, which satisfies the most discerning palate. The menu is down-to-earth yet refined – gilthead with pumpkin risotto, quails with celery puree, veal head ravioli or prawns with chickpeas. This is the Himberts’ recipe for success and their motto is: You come as a guest and leave as a friend.

LA LLONJA | Restaurant | Tel. +34 971 86 84 30

Muelle Viejo Bajo, s/n | 07470 Port de Pollenca

The restaurant La Llonja is located directly by the sea, on the old fishing pier of Port de Pollença, and offers a wonderful view of the sea and the fishing harbour with the typical Llauts from the partly covered, partly open terrace and from the restaurant located on the first floor. The sea is naturally also the culinary programme of La Llonja: seafood and fish are at the forefront of the menu, but meat specialities are also on offer. Everything is fresh, of the best quality and inspired by Mediterranean and Mallorcan cuisine. The plates are a delight for the eyes, nose and palate. Add to this the unique ambience right by the sea. The trip to the north of the island is worth it!

ANOA | Restaurant |  Tel. +34 971 563 315

Carrer de s`Aljub, 32 | Santanyi

One of the best addresses in Santanyi is the “Restaurante ANOA”, where Chef Frank Jöster keeps his guests happy and satisfied with ever changing, interesting and surprising menu creations. His “secret recipe”: to take the palate of his guests on a culinary journey with an uncompromising, fresh and loving preparation of the dishes. Some classics of the menu are: Fish soup with saffron, corn poulard breast larded with Chirozo, on Mediterranean braised vegetables and roasted beef liver with braised onions and apple. Always interesting new recipes from the international cuisine, as well as an attentive and friendly service.

NENI | Restaurant | Tel. +34 971 63 17 00

Neni at Bikini Island Hotel, C./de Migjorn, 2 | Port de Soller

The NENI in the Bikini Hotel in Port de Soller is a trendsetter: in the restaurant, a low-lit atmosphere created in an Arabic mixed style, on the inviting terrace with its raffia roof a true, Caribbean feeling and all of this with a fantastic view of the harbour. Neni-Spirit Haya Molcho designed the menu: Israeli, Arabic, Mediterranean – all wildly combined and therefore new, surprising and exciting. The best thing to do is to order the menu, which offers a variety of their cuisine and invites you to taste and share. The cuisine of the restaurant cannot be described, but must be tasted and enjoyed. A young, multilingual, attentive service completes the picture.

FINCA ES SERRAL | Restaurant | Tel. +34 971 835 336

Camí Cala Torta, Km 0,5 | 07570 Arta

In the north-east of the island, in a valley with fig, almond and carob plantations, lies the finca Es Serral, which has been run by the Amorós family for generations. This also benefits the restaurant of the same name, where they cook with potatoes, vegetables and fruit from their own harvest. Whether on the inviting terrace or inside by the fireplace, meals here are a pleasure. The menu brings the best of Mallorca’s cuisine: as starters, for example, ratatouille or Frito Mallorquín, as main courses braised lamb or oven-fresh suckling pig, but also vegetarian specialities. And delicious postres such as almond cream or the Mallorcan pudding Greixonera Dolça.
