Campos refers to both a village on the motorway from Palma to the southeast coast of the island, as well as the administrative district in the south of the island, whose territory extends to the southern tip of the island close to Sa Rapita. The village of Campos is located 9 km from the coast. There are a lot of businesses on the main road (Pasteleria Pomar is famous far and beyond Campos), other than that it is a quiet village, with the exception of market days (Thursday and Saturday). The region is characterised by agriculture (hence the name “Campos” = fields) and its many windmills which served, or serve, for irrigating the fields. The area has been largely spared tourism, which is why the demand for apartments in the village is low. However, overseas buyers are very interested in properties such as fincas and rural properties which allow them to enjoy peace and quiet, but offer easy access to the market square or the coast. The popular beaches Platja des Trenc and Platja de Sa Rapita belong to Campos. If you are interested in buying a finca or a rural property in Campos, please contact the real estate agents in the Minkner & Partner Llucmajor office, who are responsible for the Campos area.
Campos was founded in the year 1300, although it has more than 2000 years of history. Already in Roman times the fertile soil of the region was being used for agricultural purposes. Campos also has the only source of medicinal mineral water on the island. This was used by the Romans and is still in use today as there exists a small spa, the "Banys de Sant Joan de la Font Santa". Campos is known for its agricultural products and its capers, which are of excellent quality are very popular. Another well-known product of the region is salt, which is extracted in Ses Salines.
Fincas and rural properties in Campos
As a result of its agricultural background, the region around the village of Campos is very rural and is characterised by its farms. However, as agriculture is no longer very profitable many farms have been abandoned and subsequently used for residential purposes only. Over the past few years many people from abroad have bought old fincas and have adapted the original house by combining traditional elements with new materials, to create a modern and comfortable home. Some larger properties with old manor houses were refurbished and now serve as a holiday home or a permanent residence. The Minkner & Partner sales agents will be happy to open the doors to these fincas and country homes in Campos for you.
