Horse Riding in Mallorca – The Happiness of Earth
Mallorca also attracts many friends of recreational riding and equestrian sports. For beginners and advanced riders, there are horse farms and riding stables (called “rancho” in Spanish) all over the island that offer riding lessons and varied riding excursions, some even in combination with holiday accommodation. You can also learn and practise dressage and western riding in Mallorca. An indescribable ambience awaits riders on their rides across the island: depending on the level of the rider, there are unforgettable rides through the shady pine forests, in the wild mountain trails, across harvested fields, in the dunes and on the beach (in winter) or as a “moonlight ride”.
By the way, Mallorca has its own breed of horse, the “Pura Raza Mallorquina”. It is a black, racy breed that originated on the island, is still bred today and is widespread. If you don’t want to ride yourself, exciting events await you at the Hipódromo Son Pardo trotting and galloping racecourse near Palma. Trotting races take place there every weekend. Mallorca’s biggest horse race – the Gran Premio Nacional – takes place on the last weekend in May. For these races, a special breed is bred in Mallorca, the “Trotons”. Friends of the sport of polo will also find a small but very fine offer on Mallorca, namely at the “Engel & Völkers Land Rover Polo School base Mallorca – Son Coll” on the edge of the Serra de Tramuntana nature reserve near the fishing village of Port d`es Canonge.
